Chinese New Year 2013

Chinese New Year is fast approaching! This year it falls on Sunday, February 10, 2013.  It's a chance for people to gather with family, eat to their hearts' content, and for kids to receive lucky money!  Here is a taste for some local events celebrating the Year of the Snake.

Gaithersburg Chinese New Year Events - 2/4-17/13 Lakeforest Mall, various events scheduled during the 2 week event including live entertainment with a traditional lion and dragon dance, folk dances, and martial arts demonstrations.  Demonstrations and workshops include flower/bonsai arrangement, arts and crafts, painting and games.

Fair Oaks Mall Lunar New Year Celebration - 2/9-10/13 Fair Oaks Mall, VA, Ceremonies, performances and exhibitions vary each day including traditional Chinese dragon dances, music performances, martial arts demonstrations, children's crafts, and a special lantern festival.

Eden Center Tet New Year Celebration - 2/10/13 Eden Center 11am Lion Dance, 12 noon Flag Ceremony followed by Lion Dance.

Chinese New Year Parade and Festival in Washington DC - 2/10/13 Chinatown on H Street, NW between 6th and 8th Street featuring traditional Chinese Dragon Dance, Kung Fu demonstrations and live musical entertainment.  Also celebrate from 12-5pm  at th eChinatown Community Cultural Center 616 H Street NW.  Activities include live music, dance performances, traditional Chinese calligraphy, children's crafts, face painting, tai chi, and other activities!
